Your US green card interview decides years of work — in a few English answers.

“Tell me about your work and why you're immigrating to the United States.”

✓ Approach: Give a clear, confident summary of your field and role, then one concrete reason your work belongs in the US (where it's needed or has the most impact). Keep every word consistent with your petition.

✗ Avoid: Rambling, or purely personal/economic reasons ('a better life') instead of your professional contribution.

“Why is your work important to the United States? (national interest)”

✓ Approach: Name the concrete national benefit — an industry, public infrastructure, safety, cost savings, research — and who it helps beyond a single employer.

✗ Avoid: Vague 'I'm highly skilled' answers with no national-level benefit.

“Could a US worker do what you plan to do?”

✓ Approach: Explain calmly what makes your specialization rare and why the benefit is national — this is exactly why a waiver / self-petition is justified.

✗ Avoid: Sounding dismissive of US workers; frame it as national benefit + rare expertise, never superiority.

“What makes you qualified to carry out this work?”

✓ Approach: Point to concrete evidence — years of experience, research, publications, projects, measurable results — the same proof that's in your petition.

✗ Avoid: Empty confidence with no evidence, or claims that go beyond your documents.

“What is your plan in the US — where will you work and live?”

✓ Approach: Give a concrete, realistic plan: your field, the kind of role or clients, and your intended location. Continuity with your current work is a strength.

✗ Avoid: 'I'll figure it out when I arrive' — vagueness reads as a weak plan.

“How will you support yourself financially?”

✓ Approach: State savings, income or offers clearly and confidently — enough that you won't rely on public benefits (the 'public charge' test).

✗ Avoid: Unclear figures or anything that contradicts your financial documents.

“Do you have a job offer in the United States?”

✓ Approach: For EB-2 NIW / EB-1A a specific job offer isn't required — say so calmly and explain your independent plan; if you have offers or contacts, mention them.

✗ Avoid: Panicking as if a missing offer is disqualifying, or inventing an offer that isn't documented.

“Have you been to the US before? Any visa refusals or immigration issues?”

✓ Approach: Answer honestly and briefly — lawful prior travel is a plus; disclose any history calmly and factually.

✗ Avoid: Hiding or minimizing anything; inconsistencies with the records are the real risk.
